(Every month I reveal stats about my side projects, which includes how much I’ve earned. The info below is slightly censored. For the full financial figures, sign up in the sidebar to the right.)
So howabout that Super Bowl ending? In case you missed it, Seahawks were about to win the game when they riskily threw an interception from the 1 yard line. Instead of giving the ball to their running back (nicknamed “Beast Mode”) they opted to go out with a bang with a flashy over-the-middle pass. Who wants to play it safe with a sure-win by when you can go against the grain?
Well, we do. Yes, we sidestrappers.
Instead of being average and relying on our day jobs, we strive for something different – an outcome where our side projects become a meaningful source of income.
Does that mean we’re gonna fail like the Seahawks? Sometimes. Here’s an example: last month I posted an article about how to market your side project, using HostBenchmarker as an example. And now I feel super embarassed because do you know how much income those specific marketing strategies have brought in? Zero dollars.
Yup. #ShaneFail. I don’t regret posting that article, because it did work to bring lots of targetted visitors to my site. But it is a lesson in always refining your approach to things. I’m back at the drawing board with that site and luckily I’ve already implemented a few changes that may improve things. Will keep you posted.
But this month wasn’t a fail overall. My numbers remain consistent, which is a win in my book. Let’s take a look at January stats:
Compared to last month, visitors up about 10%, and profit up by just a few bucks.
EasyDbs and AmpedSense were pretty strong contributors, at almost $150 each. I love making money from those two sites since I’m selling my own product there (instead of relying on a third party like AdSense, which could change at any moment).
This next month I’m going to be meeting with two other entrepreneurs and getting some feedback from them. Hopefully they have some nuggets of wisdom I can use to get HostBenchmarker some traction, and if so I’ll be sure to share with all of you. Stay tuned!
