As month #2 of being my own boss comes to a finish, I must say I’m learning a lot. Not necessarily about new technologies or skills, but about myself. I’m really seeing the pros and cons of freelancing. For example – I love being able to work when I want, take breaks when I want, and work from wherever I want. Yet it’s actually more stressful than I imagined – sometimes having someone else tell you what to do is nice because you don’t have to make the difficult decisions.
If you read my last post about what I’ve been doing to market my plugin, you know what I’m talking about. Almost a full month of marketing activities, and hardly any increase in sales to show for it. Had someone else been making these decisions I could care less – but since I’m the one in charge I can’t help but get frustrated with myself.
I mentioned that the next major step to promoting AmpedSense was going to be releasing a limited free version that’s available through the wordpress plugin directory. I finished it last week and just got approved a few hours ago (they manually review each submission, and I had to make a few changes). Tomorrow it’ll be going live for the world, so cross your fingers that it’s the extra boost in exposure I’ve been looking for!
This month’s recap
Again, been focusing mainly on one project. Let’s look at the stats for this month:
How frustrating is it that the project I spent the most time on ended up posting a loss of $167? Luckily my other side projects kept me profitable overall. There were a few moments after looking at these numbers that I thought I should switch my focus to other projects, but I’m determined not to give up until I’ve tried everything I possibly can. I know the product is good…just need to find the secret to marketing it…(and paying for advertising is not it!).
This next month’s focus will be the free version of AmpedSense. If that doesn’t work then I’ll really be forced to rethink things. Wish me luck!!
