March 2015 Profit Report: $1,013

Shane Labs April 9, 2015 6

I did it! Remember that goal I set a while back of $1,000 profit per month? Well last month I finally reached it! Sure, it has taken me longer than expected, but that’s okay. I barely made it too: total profit was $1,013.

How did I do it? That’s a great question, especially since I’ve had the least amount of time to work on side projects of any recent month. Of course, there were many factors contributing to last month’s success, but I think the one that helped the most was the addition of an affiliate on AmpedSense. Yup, AmpedSense now has an affiliate program!

Long story short: an existing AmpedSense customer loved the plugin so much he asked if he could promote it. Now at the time I had just decided not to spend any more effort on marketing AmpedSense, but what do I have to lose if he markets it for me at no upfront cost? So, I set him up with a custom link via my payment processor (FastSpring), and he went to town. A few weeks later, and 8 sales totaling $640. he gets 50% of that, but it’s still $320 in extra profit than I would have made without him.

How ridiculous of me to almost “retire” AmpedSense a couple months ago.

I’m going to explore recruiting some more affiliates, and if it proves successful like this last month then I’ll write up a more detailed post about offereing an affiliate program for your side projects. My concern is that this affiliate already promoted to his entire following, so I don’t expect too much more activity to come from him in the future.

Anyway, enough about AmpedSense and affiliate programs. Let’s look at this months numbers by project:

Compared to last month, a bit more visitors (+3k), and almost $400 in additional profit. That’s pure profit, not revenue 🙂 Yay!

I’m still pondering what to do with HostBenchmarker. It’s starting more and more to look like a lost cause. Do I really think I can compete with the behemoths that spend $30k per day on “hosting review” keyword traffic?

Congrats, Shane. Love seeing side hustles pay off for founders.

Also generally love the “ready fire aim” approach you’ve been taking. I’d love to see consistency in the ampedsense income or diversification in the portfolio.

Looking forward to what comes next.

    Congrats Shane, great stuff!

Exciting here too- my photo booth build is essentially done. And it has its first outing tonight for an engagement party! Hoping to write a blog post about my build and decisions relating to the booth. Will send the link when I do.

Great work Shane. Once you get to $1k, I think figuring out how to monetize gets somewhat easier.

I also think you’d be crazy to give up on HostBenchmarker. It needs a bit more promotion and the affiliate links could be a bit better. But that site should / will bring in nice side income.

You are definitely on the right track. Good work!

Hey Jack – thanks for the encouragement! I agree there’s some major rework I need to do on HostBenchmarker, but you’re right – I shouldn’t give up. Now that it’s been a year it’s starting to get some decent SEO rankings.

      Thanks bud!
